Utilizing All Resources In the Job Hunt
Let’s say that you are the offensive coordinator on a football team. During the course of the game, you ask your QB to throw quick out patterns to the same receiver time and time again with little results. And so at halftime, you decide to switch quarterbacks. You want someone who is fresh, perhaps with a better arm and a better touch on the ball. After all, SOMEONE has got to get this offense rolling, right? So you put him in the game and you continue to have him throw the same out patterns to the same receiver with the same negative results. You lose the game and cannot figure out why. Could it possibly be that
This is why it is vitally important that you attack the job market using all of the tools you can. What good does it do to invest in revising your resume if you are going to send it to the same job board time and again? Your offense will be stuffed- just like your fresh quarterback. You need to mix it up. Yes, you can send your new resume to job boards. But you should also send them to various recruiters in your area. You should also identify what type of medical sale you are interested in, research those companies, find out who the RSM is, and send you resume to that manager directly. Utilize industry newsletters which provide great industry information. And for those bold enough try it- send your resume directly to the CEOs and Sales Directors of Medical Device startups. Why not try sending it to the Managing Directors of Venture Capital firms? Those people know the needs of their portfolio companies- what have you got to lose?
Attacking the job market aggressively and creatively means utilizing tools other than conventional jon boards. Just like that offensive coordinator who spreads the field and gets creative offensively, the more companies you contact, the more creative you are in your approach, the better your chances are of scoring a touchdown!
