Be Specific When You Are Dealing With Your Recruiter
One of the first things I ask of a candidate is what
Here is a typical response:
“Pete, I want to find a position where I will be happy, in a good corporate culture where I can get excited about the product line and a position where I can grow.” Okay that’s fine, but how am I supposed to know what will make you happy, what the corporate culture is like, and what you would be excited about?
I always tell candidates to write down five SPECIFIC CRITERIA that a potential employer must have in order for that candidate to even consider interviewing. The criteria could be as general as wanting to get into medical sales, or it can be as specific as wanting to land a position in cardiac surgery sales. It is very frustrating to us recruiters to call with an opportunity only to find out that the position is not desirable to the candidate because it does not meet certain criteria- criteria that should have been mentioned beforehand.
As you speak with your recruiter, make sure to indicate what exact criteria you are looking for. A good recruiter will note that on your resume and will be more than happy to call you when that position comes up. BE SPECIFIC!
