Our search firm receives hundreds of resumes from outstanding candidates looking to make a career change. They tell us what their ideal situation would be, the compensation requirements, the desired career progression, and their timeline for making a change. When we find the right opportunity we contact the candidate, tell them about the position, and lo and behold- they are too busy to interview! Recently I had a surgical candidate send me his resume for a search we had in Sacramento. Perfect candidate- eager to make a move, very interested in our position. We made contact with him, at which point he said he was, “heading into surgery” and would call later in the day. We did not hear back from him for four days, at which point he said that he was “slammed” and could not get away. OK, fair enough. But by then it was too late. Manager interviewed, position filled. This candidate lost out on a perfect position.
