OK everyone, happy November! This is the time of year when people decide whether or not to shut the job search down for the Holidays. Many people tell me that they are going to relax and enjoy the holidays, recharge their batteries, and “hit it hard on January 2nd.” OK fine- but guess what? On January 2, it will be too late! One misinformed”industry expert” from a notable job board company recently told a candidate of mine to “reflect, reposition, and rebrand himself because companies are just not hiring in November and December.” (I wonder if that “expert” is going to have a job on January 2).
Here’s the point- THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR TO BE MOST AGGRESSIVE for several reasons:
1.) Many candidates will be giving up on their job searches, so there will be less competition
2.) In December, many candidates will have given notice to their respective companies, which will create an immediate need for your services
3.) Companies need to have people start work by the first week of January because most companies have their national sales meetings in February and want the new hires to attend.
I can say without hesitation that our Search Firm is busier in the 4th quarter than any time during the year-companies NEED to get their rosters filled by the beginning of the year so we generally work overtime to help our clients. And you should help yourself by getting your resume looking sharp and clean, practice your elevator speech, and aggressively pursue companies directly and through recruitment firms. Now is not the time to relax. Turn on the afterburners!
We are here to help you with your resume and provide coaching for any interviews that come up. Please feel free to give us a call!
