Keep The Real Estate License Off Your Resume
Stating that you have a Real Estate License on your resume is not a good idea. A Real Estate License is not going to get you an interview, but is almost a certainty that it will deny you an interview. Why? It gives the impression that you have a side job. Companies want 110% effort each and every working day devoted to your primary job- the one in which you are paid a salary. What you do on the weekend is your business, but the 40 plus hours you spend during the week is their business. What’s to stop them from thinking that you will be leaving the field early on a workday to show property? And I guarantee you that the first time your numbers slip, your manager will attribute that to you conducting real estate business on the side. Also, managers like to hire hungry, money motivated sales people who will strive each and every day to get better and increase revenues- not people who have a fallback option in the event things do not go well. For these and other reasons, they will not take the chance on hiring you.
Even if you are not currently practicing Real Estate, it’s never a good idea to mention it on your resume or during an interview. It can negatively influence a potential employer’s decision, and does not enhance your chances of landing an interview- not one bit!
